# Intro
Most companies drown in complex systems and endless processes. But you only need a few principles (max five) to be effective. I've distilled these from years of coaching some of the most influential companies in the world (Apple, Alphabet, OpenAl) and they are how I run my company, the Art of Accomplishment
# 1. [[Open the Drawer]]
What it means:
- Say the scary thing with an open heart
- Address tough issues before they escalate
- Embrace intensity
What it's not:
- Being mean or hard
- Handing off problems
- Creating intensity for its own sake
- Blaming yourself or others
# 2. [[Everything is an Iteration]]
What it means:
- Constant experimentation
- We don't fail, we just learn
- Ask for advice, not permission
- Approach problems with wonder
- When unsure, create a simple experiment that teaches you the most
What it's not:
- Do poor work and call it an experiment
- Not learning from the past
- Repeating experiments unnecessarily
- Lacking clear goals or a north star
# 3. [[Enjoyment is efficiency]]
What it means:
- Slow is smooth and smooth is fast
- Balance ambition with play
- Learning how to enjoy things you don't normally enjoy
What it's not:
- Only doing tasks you enjoy
- Avoiding necessary stress
- Using play as avoidance
- Not address the emotions under overwhelm
# 4. [[Empower Everyone]]
What it means:
- Authority and accountability go together
- Having metrics and actionable ambition
- Everyone is the ultimate decision maker for their role (i.e. Whoever decides the tagline is responsible for how it performs)
What it's not:
- Solving problems for others
- Giving away your problem for others' comfort
- Substitution action for results
- Avoiding accountability or pushing it down unfairly
# 5. [[Act from Connection]]
What it means:
- Get things done from love
- Staying connected with self and others
- Be generous with self and others
What it's not:
- Sacrificing results for connection
- Being nice to avoid conflict
- Avoidance
- Being codependent
- Giving to the point of resentment
